FAQs about Pediatric Pelvic Floor Therapy
What does pediatric pelvic floor therapy look like?
We may do some of the typical assessments for pelvic floor therapy including external muscle palpation and range of motion assessments but we don't do an internal exam. A lot of our information comes from you, your child and observation through play.
From there, we develop a plan that may include core strengthening and mobility, behavioral modifications, nutrition counseling and strategies to address sensory-based challenges as needed. It is important to find ways to incorporate these into your family routine and to make them fun!
What ages do you work with?
For pediatric pelvic floor therapy, I can see both boys and girls from toddler-age through adolescence.
Have you worked with children before? What about children with special needs?
Yes! I began my career as an occupational therapist working in the pediatric setting in 2012 and have worked with a variety of diagnoses throughout my 10 years as a peds OT! I am well trained in sensory integration, behavioral strategies and pediatric development. I am excited to combine two of my passions together --pediatrics and pelvic health!
